Why You Need An Essential Oil Diffuser

Essential oils are becoming more popular and for good reason. They have endless health, beauty, and mental health benefits, and they do much more than most people realize. When I first heard about essential oils two years ago, I was in disbelief of how they worked. I was told that applying lavender essential oil to my wrists and neck would promote relaxation and a sense of calm. You mean to tell me that a flower can help me to relax in my stressful, busy life? I did not believe it for a second.

Although I was in disbelief, I still wanted to try it out anyways. I didn’t want to miss even the slightest chance of relaxation in my life and I had to find out if the hype was real about essential oils or not. So, I went out and bought some lavender essential oil and tried it, and I’m glad I did. Being wrong isn’t one of my favorite things, but I was happy to admit I was wrong about essential oils! I put it on my wrists and neck and the smell was so relaxing that I couldn’t help but smile. I don’t know if the actual smell made me relax and take a minute just to breathe it in, or if it was all in my mind. But whichever it was, it worked!

Fast forward two years to today, and I know a lot more about essential oils than I ever thought I would know. Although I know a lot, there is still so much for me to learn. Essential oils consist of so many things to know and it can be very confusing and hard to understand. The best place to start, and where I started, is with aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy, also referred to as Essential Oil therapy, is “the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit.” In other words, it is how certain smells from essential oils makes you feel certain ways. The best way to experiment and learn about aromatherapy is with your very own essential oil diffuser!

My Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser

Not knowing what I was doing, I jumped online and started doing some research. I came across the essential oil diffuser, which is a small machine that you use to diffuse essential oil and water into the air of any room you choose. There are many essential oil diffusers out there, but the best one I could find was the InnoGear Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser. Not only did this one seem like the best price, it also has 7 changing mood lights, each of which is adjustable between bright and dim modes! When I’m going to bed, I usually set the light to either dark blue or dark purple to promote relaxation and night-time. When I am doing yoga in the morning, I’ll set it to pink or orange to promote energy and sunshine. As weird as it sounds, I feel like the lights and mix of essential oils really sets my mood for whatever I am doing, which is why I love this diffuser more than most others that my mom and friends have that do not change colors.

How It Works

Working the diffuser is much more simple than I was expecting. It comes with instructions on how to use it specifically, but you don’t even need to read them because it’s so simple (although I recommend looking over the instructions anyways). You simply open the top of the diffuser, pour water in, and add a few drops of your desired essential oil. When you turn it on, it will diffuse your essential oil and water mixture into a pretty cloud of amazing-smelling water vapor (see the video below)! Although the water vapor itself only extends about a foot or two away from the diffuser, you can smell it throughout the whole room within minutes.

This makes it great for holiday gatherings as your guests will smell the amazing essential oils you use and compliment what an amazing smelling room/home you have. My personal favorite is to put the color green on and diffuse pine tree and cinnamon essential oils into the air; smells like Christmas!

That’s it! If you want a stronger smell, add more essential oils and if you want less smell, add less essential oils. You can set the diffuser to either mist continuously or on and off continuously. The diffuser itself is fairly small, but it diffuses so slowly that it will last for hours. I often keep it on overnight and wake up to the smell of essential oils! And you won’t have to worry about the water vapor ruining your furniture; it’s such a light water vapor that it won’t stick to furniture or clothes.

Cleaning The Diffuser

Cleaning it out is just as easy, which is very helpful. Again, the instructions show you how it’s done, but all you need to do is pour the water out and wipe the inside with a towel. You can clean it after every use, or once every month. I barely ever clean mine and it still works 100%. I have had mine for over a year and it still works as if it is brand new, which actually surprises me with how often I use it. It’s easy to clean and is durable, which makes this diffuser one of the best purchases I could have made.

What Essential Oils to Use

Which essential oils you use in your diffuser is completely up to you! Anything from basic scents such as lavender and tea tree, to pre-made mixes such as the ones I’m about to show you. The choice is completely yours! When doing my research, I decided to buy a pack of pre-mixed blends of essential oils. These blends come pre-mixed with multiple different essential oils and promote specific feelings instead of smells. The pack I bought  and use everyday is the Synergy Blends. I love each and every blend and it truly promotes what it says it does. The oil blends that comes in the box include the following:

Breathe Easier

Good Night

Stress Relief

Sunshine Spice

They are high quality, great smelling essential oil blends that will leave you smiling from ear to ear. My personal favorite is the Stress Relief blend! These blends even come with a mini packet with 150 ways to use essential oils. This is what helped me to get started with essential oils and I found it very informative. These oils, too, have lasted me well over a year! As you can tell, each one is different and can be used at different times of the day/night. These blends are among my absolute favorite blends and I always recommend them to friends and family who are unsure of which essential oils to buy first. You can use these blends or even create your own!

Are you getting excited about essential oils yet? I know I was as soon as I found out about all the things they can do! I use essential oils, but have never used them in conjuction with a diffuser.

Coming across this post was timely, given I’m looking for ways to alternate between burning incense and resins.

Thanks for the intro and planting the idea of acquiring and using diffusers with my oils.
